Favorite Hikes

Echo Lake

  • You can walk out the door and up the hill behind the house for about a mile and see Echo lake from the ridge then walk either direction around it. Or, its about a 2 mile drive to a parking area next to the lake.
  • Easy hike and mostly level but beautiful.
  • Its about 2 ½ miles to the end of lower Echo Lake. You can continue on if you wish to Upper Echo Lake.
Lovers Leap
  • I prefer the shorter route. You park where the Ralston trailhead is then walk across hwy 50 through Camp Sacramento and up to the top of Lovers Leap. Its about 45 minutes one way and mostly going up but not too bad of a grade. Wonderful view from the top.
  • 4.4 mile drive
Pyramid Creek Trailhead
  • Easy hike next a river with several waterfalls
  • 5.7 miles

Winter Activities

Downhill Skiing

  • Sierra at Tahoe is only 3.8 miles door to door from our house. When you stay here you can have a quick drive home after skiing and watch the line of cars making the hour long trip to the city of Tahoe or the three hour long trip to Sacramento from the hot tub deck.
  • Heavenly Ski Resort is a 16 mile drive but is nice to go for a change of venues and to spend time at Heavenly village after skiing.
  • Homewood Ski Resort is a 31 mile drive but again is nice to go for a change of venues.
  • Kirkwood Ski Resort is also a 31 mile drive and is nice to go for a change of venues.
Cross Country Skiing
  • You can go right out the back door of the house and be in Desolation Wilderness in about 1/2 mile and there is cross country skiing in various spots.
  • There are many other cross country ski trails close by depending on your preferences.
Snow Shoeing
  • You can go right out the back door of the house and be in Desolation Wilderness with plenty of areas to snow shoe.
